underneath, ink sketch

wear death, heavy
like a mask
like its all you are and
all you ever were.

what life
do we
broken beasts
deny ourselves

bones and blood
built like we carried weight
but useless after dues
are paid
now we’re left
to wither.

don’t make the reaping easy.
fight it.

eyes alight
behind the veil,
and fervour,
all methods of creation
summed up
in a look–

i looked
and swear
i saw it.

wear death, then,
heavy like a mask
heavy like a plate of armor
and shine still with that simple spark
like the rot and the stench and the end
don’t matter.
